Authors note: There are two maybe three versions of this one. I found ideas I liked and wanted to write but didn't work in one story. So right now you'll get the first parts that are the same in all versions. Then when that's done I'll add links to the other versions. I know Truth Revealed isn't finished but it will be as soon as I overcome the writers block or someone writes the remaining parts on the trip to

Chapter 1
12 years later: The Mansion
"We're home" called the 17 year old Briena. As the arguing 12 year old twins Annalise and Damian followed.
"Hey kids" Angel greeted carrying in the 6 month old Roarke
"Hi Daddy" Briena smiled giving him a kiss "Where's Mom?"
"She's still at work" Angel answered "can you take him" he requested
"Sure. Hey Rory" she smiled at the little boy as she takes him from Angel
"Lise, Damian I got a call from your teacher." Angel looks at them sternly "She told me that you've been fighting again"
"He started it Dad" Annalise replied
"She did" Damian argues
"Daddy he's just jealous that I can run faster and hit a baseball harder."
"Damian we've been through this" Angel sighs rubbing his temples
"Mom's home" Briena announced
"Hey guys" Buffy greets opening the door. Seeing the look on her mate’s face she sighs "What happened this time" she asks taking the baby from Briena
"They've been fighting again" Briena tells her
"She started it" Damian said pointing at his twin
"He did Mommy" Annalise retorts
"Did not" Damian argues
"What are you fighting over?" Buffy asks
"Same as always" Briena tells her. "Jen told me that Rachel said that Lise's been using her Slayer speed against Damian."
"Have not" Annalise denies
"Whatever" Briena shrugs opening the fridge
"Damian we've talked about this. Your mom and sisters are stronger and faster than us." Angel tells his son
"And Annalise you know you aren't supposed to use your abilities in public" Buffy says to her daughter
"Brie gets to" she whines
"Brie gets to because she uses it at night when she patrols."
"And I'm older" Briena adds
"And Brie I got a call from your Health teacher" Angel remarks looking at his older daughter sternly "She told me that you refused to work on a report and that you turned in a blank paper as a summary"
"What?" Buffy demands putting her hands on her hips
Briena looks away from her parents "I have my reasons" she whispers
Buffy turns to the twins "Go work on your homework. We'll finish this later. Lise can you watch Rory"
"Sure Mom" she replies taking the baby.
"Why can't we stay when she gets yelled at" Damian complains stomping out of the room
When the younger ones are gone Buffy and Angel look at Briena "Why didn't you want to do the report sweetie?" Buffy asks
"The only other time you've done this was with the family tree project" Angel muses. He frowns in realization "Are you supposed to do that again?" he asks
"No" she replies her attention on her drink
"Then what?" Buffy asks confused
"I don't want to talk about it" Briena says angrily pushing away from the counter "I'll be upstairs" she walks up the stairs
"What is going on with her?" Buffy wonders "She has been acting different lately"
"What ever it is seems to be bothering her" Angel muses
Briena takes the stairs to the third floor where her and Spike's rooms are. She bypasses her room heading for the absent vampire's bedroom. She opens the door to a darkened room. Toeing off her shoes she crawls into the familiar bed burrowing her head in the pillow. 'I wish Spike was here' she sighs. She smiles at the thought of the blond vampire
Angel walks up the stairs to see Briena head into Spike's room. Shaking his head he returns to the main floor where he finds Buffy opening the fridge
"I take it that she's in Spike's room" Buffy states seeing the look on Angel's face
Angel nods sitting down "She'll be glad when he gets back"
"Maybe he can get her to talk about what's bothering her. When's he coming back?"
"He said he'll be here tonight" Angel replies
Upstairs Briena lies in the darkened room. 'What is with me?' she wonders as she is hit with the image of being in Spike's arms. 'It’s Spike. My buddy. Why am I having these thoughts?' she sighs
"Briena phone" Angel yells
"Just a minute" Briena replies sitting up she walks out of Spike's room into her own. "What?" she growls picking up the phone
"Hey" a girl greets
"Hey Cass" Briena greets "Sup?"
"You going to the party?"
"For a while" Briena answers "I have to go patrol"
"Cool"
"Want me to pick you up?" Briena asks
"You OK?"
"What do you mean?"
"After what happened at school?"
"I'm cool. The 'rents are a little pissed about it. But not as pissed as I thought they'd be"
"Why?"
"The brats have been fighting again" she replies
"They aren't happy huh?"
"I guess."
"So pick me up at 7"
"Hey do you want to come over for dinner?"
"Who's cooking?"
Briena frowns "I think Dad is"
"Sure. Dinner's at 6?"
"As always" Briena replies "Want me to come get you?"
"Nah. I'll walk"
"Cool. I'll let them know. And Cass, don't mention health class. I'm not in the mood for an argument"
"No prob. I'll be there in an hour we can work on homework"
"See ya" Briena says hanging up the phone. Walking out of the bedroom Briena heads to the main floor "Cass is coming over for dinner" she tells her parents finding them snuggled on the couch
"OK. I'll tell Lise to set an extra place" Angel nods
Briena lies down on the couch resting her head on Angel's leg
Angel rests his hand on her head stroking her hair lightly "You OK sweet one?"
Briena nods comforted by her father's nickname for her "I'm fine"
"Want me to patrol for you?" Buffy asks
"Nah. It’s cool."
"Where are you and Cass going?" Angel asks
"Some party. I told her I'd stick around for a while before patrol" Briena yawns
"Brie you sound tired" Buffy remarks "Have you been sleeping?"
"Eh" she replies
"She's been having nightmares again" Annalise informs them popping up from behind the couch
"Shut up brat" Briena orders sitting up
"Have you?" Angel asks looking at Buffy then Briena
Briena shrugs "I don't know. I don't remember" she stands heading out to the courtyard
Angel stares after her concerned about her response. "Lise, how long has she been having them?"
Annalise shrugs "About a month or two."
"How do you know?" Buffy asks her youngest daughter
"I hear her wake up. She usually goes to Spike's room when she has them then her rooms quiet"
"Mom, its Aunt Willow. She wants to talk to you" Damian yells
"Keep it down. Rory's sleeping" Buffy calls back "Angel why don't you go talk to her" Buffy suggests
Angel nods standing "Annalise go do your homework"
"But" she protests
"Go" Buffy orders picking up the phone
Angel heads outside to find Briena staring into space "Brie?" he says softly
Briena looks at him briefly "What?"
Angel sits down "Come and talk to me sweet one"
"What's to talk about?" she asks
Buffy walks out to the courtyard holding the phone to her ear "Thanks Will. I'll call you later" she looks at Briena as she hangs up
"What did
"Do you want to tell him or should I?" Buffy asks her daughter
Briena shrugs remaining silent
"The reason Briena refused to do the project is because the teacher wants them to ask parents questions about their mother’s pregnancy and to write about their first few months of life"
"Brie" Angel begins "why didn't you come and talk to us about it?"
"How was I? She wanted the summary by the end of class"
"Honey you could have asked her for an extension. We could have come up with something" Buffy says
"Because" she looks down at her feet
"Because what?" Angel asks concerned
Briena looks at them her eyes neutral "I don't care." she replies her voice emotionless
"Brie its part of your grade" Buffy reminds
Briena shrugs "What’s to write about? I wasn't born. I just exist."
"Briena" Angel begins
"Did Jack tell you that ten minutes after I 'appeared' I reached the size of a six month old? Did he tell you that by the time I should have been six months old I was physically a 2 year old." she pauses "She wanted us to write the summary by the end of class. What was I supposed to do? Admit that I should technically be 15? That would have gone over well. Look I'm not writing the fucking paper." she finishes her eyes shifting momentarily
"Language" Angel growls in warning
Briena looks at him "I'll be in my room" she turns and walks inside
Buffy watches Briena head inside shaking her head
"What is with her" Angel wonders
Buffy sits in his lap resting her head on his shoulder "She's a teenager baby. Remember what I was like at 17, especially after the Master."
"It’s different than that. She's not acting like you did. She’s acting almost..."
"What?"
Angel sighs "I'm not sure it’s hard to explain."
Buffy looks at him "I'm sure she'll be fine" she kisses him "Now what are we going to do about the twins? Lise can't keep provoking Damian"
"I know" Angel agrees "but what are we supposed to do?"
Buffy sighs "I think that we need to start making her accountable"
"All right. Any ideas?"
"Grounding her isn't fair. So I'm thinking her punishment should be something like no phone or TV."
Angel nods "We'll talk to them after dinner."
Buffy smiles "So how was your day?"
Chapter 2
5:30
"Hey" Cass greets entering the mansion
"She's upstairs" Angel supplies
"Cool" Cass smiles "Hey Rory" she greets dropping a kiss on the baby's head "So what's dinner?"
Angel chuckles turning back to the stove, "Dinner tonight is chicken."
"Oooh, my fav." Cass grins heading towards the stairs
"Dinners in 10" he calls
"Sweet" she replies heading to the third floor "Yo Brie" she knocks opening the door to find Briena sprawled on her back staring at the ceiling
"Sup" she greets
"So they know?"
"Someone told
"Ouch so how mad are they?" Cass asks flopping beside Briena
"Not much. They understood."
"That’s good" Cass says relieved "Your Dad said dinners in 10"
"Wicked"
"He said its chicken"
"Let’s go see if he needs help" Briena suggests sitting up
"You know Rory is growing fast" Cass remarks
"I know. Hard to believe he's 6 months old." Briena states opening the bedroom door
15 mins later
"So what are you two doing tonight?" Angel asks Briena and Cass as he shifts Rory in his arms
"Gonna hang with everyone. Go to a party then patrol" Briena answers
"Where's the party?" Buffy asks
"Off campus" Cass answers
"What?!" Buffy demands
"Relax Momma" Briena grins "It’s a underage dorm. No drinking. No smoking."
"How underage?" Buffy asks concerned
"Mom the dorm is filled with early admissions kids. None of them can drink"
"Which sucks" Cass mutters
"Cass" Angel says warningly
"I'm kidding" Cass replies
"You better be you two are too young to drink" Angel mutters
"And Dad, how old were you the first time you got drunk?" Briena asks with a smirk
"Don't remember" Angel replies
"Grandfather said the first time he had to pick you up from the local bar you were 15."
Angel winces "That was a long time ago. Things were different back then. You aren't old enough"
"Chill Daddy. If I planned to get drunk it wouldn't be with a bunch of should be high school seniors."
"She would go for the college seniors" Cass grins
Briena glares at her friend "Shut up Cass"
"Lise, Damian how did school go?" Buffy asks changing the subject
"Other than her cheating cool" Damian answers glaring at his sister
"Bite me" Annalise replies sweetly
"Annalise" Angel growls "be nice"
"Sorry Daddy"
Angel shakes his head at the sight of the younger version of the love of his life. "Its OK" he smiles "Oh we have something to tell you"
Briena looks at them startled "Uh are we getting another kid around here?"
Buffy and Angel look at Briena "Why would you think that?" Buffy asks
"Lets see the only times you begin a conversation like that was when you said that I was going to LA with Dad. Then when you told me about Kathy. When you said you were pregnant. Then when you said you were having twins. Then when you said you were getting married. Then the other two times." She says seeing sadness flash through her parents eyes she continues "Then when you said you were pregnant with Rory"
"No, I'm not pregnant" Buffy assures
"Too bad" Annalise says "I want a little sister"
"I don't" Briena replies "having you around is enough."
"So what’s the news?" Damian asks
"I got a call from Spike" Angel answers
"Really?" Damian grins
Angel nods at his son "He'll be back tonight"
Briena grins "Cool. At least now I'll be able to hit someone without getting yelled at"
"So did Dru kick him out all ready?" Cass asks curiously
Angel shrugs "He didn't say."
"He probably missed fighting with Mom" Briena snickers
Buffy rolls her eyes turning to Angel as she breaks off a piece of bread she feeds it to Rory. "You know he hasn't seen Rory since he was 3 months old." she realizes smiling at the little boy's toothless grin
"Brie we need to get going." Cass reminds "we need to meet up with the others"
"Oh yeah. I need to change" Briena stands "and grab my stuff"
Cass follows Briena up the stairs to her room. She watches as her friend goes through her closet "So what are you going to wear?"
Briena frowns looking at the clothes "I don't know. Any ideas?"
"Um why don't you wear the calf length black skirt"
Briena frowns "Not bad but with what?" she asks taking out the skirt she tosses it on her bed.
"Brie, can I come in?" Buffy calls
"Sure" Briena replies
Buffy opens the door "What are you doing?" she asks entering with Rory on her hip
"Trying to find Brie something to wear" Cass answers
"What's up Momma?"
"I need you to take Rory to his doctor’s appointment tomorrow afternoon"
"Can't you?" Briena asks
"I work late tomorrow."
"Dad?"
"He's going to LA for a day or two. They need some help with a case"
"Fine what time?"
"3"
"The twins?"
"Lise is going to Becca's. Damian has detention"
Briena laughs "You know its funny Damian looks like Daddy but he seems to be taking after you"
"I know. And Lise looks like me and is taking after the LA me. You look like your father and you take after him. Rory looks like both of us and so far he takes after your father."
"Only because he can't walk or talk" Briena laughs
Buffy laughs "True. Don't forget it’s a school night don't stay out to late" she reminds heading out the door
"Oh can you have Daddy take out the car seat from his car before he leaves"
"Sure I'll tell him" Buffy says closing the door
Briena turns back to her closet "All right I'll wear the red shirt." she takes out a blood red long sleeved shirt.
"Wear the black boots" Cass suggests
Briena nods "With the black duster or black leather jacket?"
"Which leather jacket?"
"The short one? Mid thigh one? Calf one?"
"Mid thigh"
"Yeah that goes with my jeans too" Briena muses as she changes clothes "What do you think?"
"Wicked. Gonna have some droolers" Cass remarks watching as her friend applies her makeup
"Great just what I need" Briena groans
"What is with you?" Cass asks
"What?"
"I mean you are considered to be the hottest girl in school and you turn down all the guys. If I had your looks I wouldn't"
Briena shrugs "They don't interest me. Besides I've dated all the good ones"
"True but you could date the others"
"I have no interest in them." she replies picking up her backpack they head out the door and down the stairs
"So what? You know I heard the new guy is interested in you"
"That's nice." Briena replies "I'm out" she calls to her parents
"I'll send Spike to patrol later." Angel calls
Briena groans "Daddy I can take care of it myself"
"Brie you need some sleep and you have school in the morning. I'm sending Spike"
"Fine" Briena replies heading out the front door with Cass following. They get into the car "I can't believe Spike's going to be back" Briena remarks as she starts the car
Cass looks at her friend and smoothers a grin "So you've missed him"
Briena shrugs "I always do. He's been my best friend since the moment we met" she smiles at the memory
"Tell me is there something other than friendship on the horizon?" Cass asks curiously
Briena looks at her friend startled "No" she says uncertainly
"You don't sound convinced"
"Cass he's my best friend. He's kind of like my big brother. He's Daddy's best friend. He loves Drusilla."
"You sound like you have feelings for him" Cass states
"No" Briena denies
"Brie, Spike's a total hottie."
She shrugs "I guess"
"So you do have feelings for him" Cass remarks
"I don't know" Briena replies "Lately I guess I have"
"What do you mean?"
"Cass, swear you won't tell anyone?"
"I swear on my parents heads." Cass promises looking at her friend seriously "So spill"
Briena sighs her eyes on the road, "I've been having dreams lately"
"About Spike?"
Briena nods "Not just about Spike but other things"
"Good or bad?"
"Both"
"Sexual or not?"
"Sometimes they are others they aren't"
"What are the bad ones?"
"I don't remember" Briena replies "all I remember is waking up and having an intense need to be near Spike. I've slept twice this week in my own bed. They rest of the time I wake up and head into Spike's room"
"How'd the parents take to that?"
"I don't know. They haven't mentioned it. But when Spike gets back I'm sure they will" she grimaces as she pulls into a driveway, "Look, don't mention this to the others OK?"
"I promise"
After dark: The Dorm
Briena walks through the crowd of teens looking for Cass. She senses the stares of the guys around her at the sight of her ragged jeans, crop top, combat boots, and leather jacket. "Cass" she says loudly
" 'sup?"
"Headin' out. I'll be back in an hour or so"
"Want someone to come with?" Cass asks
"Nah I'm cool. Just keep an eye on everyone"
20 mins later: Cemetary
Briena is leaning against the headstone as she senses a familiar presence nearby "I was wondering when you'd show up"
"Hello cutie" Spike greets coming out of the shadows
"Hi Spike" she grins she hugs him tight "I'm glad your back" she whispers
"I'm glad to be back" he replies hugging her back
Briena moves away from him "How have you been?"
"Bored" Spike replies
Briena leans against the headstone as Spike joins her "Oh?" she asks
"Not much going on outside Sunnyhell." he remarks
"How's Dru?"
"Good" he shrugs "She's happy with the bloke taking care of her."
"So you OK with that?"
Spike nods "As long as she's happy I'm happy. He's a nice enough bloke."
"Cool."
"How've you been luv?"
Briena sighs "Cool. I'm kinda in trouble"
"For what?"
"My health teacher wanted me to write a paper on my early years. Oh gee I can't write it"
"Detention?"
"Yep. A week"
"Ouch. How'd peaches take it?"
"Well he woulda freaked if the twins hadn't gotten into trouble for fighting. I was let off the hook"
Spike casually places his arm around her shoulders "Come on tell me more about what's been goin' on 'round here while we patrol"
An hour later
"So that is all that's happened" Briena finishes as they walk down the empty street
"You've been busy pet" Spike remarks
Briena nods "You've been gone for three months" she reminds
"It’s getting late, luv. You should head home"
"I need to go back and get the car."
"I'll walk you home then go get the car"
"All right" she nods
After midnight: The Mansion
Briena awakens startled "Oh man" she groans sitting up she gets out of bed and walks out of her bedroom she heads to the bathroom barely registering the fact that Spike is in the shower.
"Briena what are you doing up?" Spike asks sticking his head out from behind the shower curtain
"I'll be outta here in a minute" she replies going to the sink she splashes water on her face "See ya" she heads back to her room.
Spike frowns pulling back into the shower he rinses off then snags a towel. Quickly drying off he pulls on his jeans heading out of the bathroom he goes to Briena's door knocking "Can I come in?"
"Sure" Briena answers
Spike opens the door to find Briena sitting on the window seat looking out at the night sky. Spike sits on the edge of the bed "You OK pet?"
Briena shrugs "I guess."
"Did you have a dream?" he asks concerned
"I'm not sure" she replies "I can't remember."
"You can't remember?" he asks confused
Briena nods "Lately I have been having dreams but I can't remember what they're about" she stands going to the bed she sits beside Spike
"Prophetic?"
"I don't know. They don't feel prophetic"
"What do they feel like?"
"I'm not sure" she yawns
"Get some sleep Brie."
"I know." she yawns crawling under the covers "Will you stay 'til I fall asleep?"
"Sure Brie" he replies turning off the lamp "I'll stay"
Chapter 3
Next Morning
Briena awakens to her alarm clock going off. "Ehh" she grunts slapping the snooze button
"Briena get up" Angel calls
"I'm up" she replies
"I need you to take the twins to school."
"Fine."
10 mins later
"Good morning Brie" Angel greets seeing his elder daughter stumble down the stairs
"Caffeine" she demands
"Coffee or Coke?"
"Coke" she yawns her head hitting the counter top
Angel shakes his head opening the fridge he grabs a can placing it in front of her, "Late night?"
Briena shrugs "Short night"
"Dreams?"
"I guess" she grunts "They ready?"
"Almost" Angel answers
"Where's Mom?"
"Left all ready. Don't forget you need to take Rory to the doctors at 3."
"I know" she takes a drink "Did you take the car seat out of your car?"
"It’s in the hallway"
"OK" Briena nods "Annalise, Damian, get your butts down here."
"Just a minute" Damian yells
"Shut the bloody hell up. I'm tryin' to sleep" Spike yells
Angel groans as he hears the baby cry "Lise can you bring Rory down here"
"I'll be out in the car. You have five minutes to get out there or I leave without you" Briena yells going to the door she grabs her backpack as she heads out the door to the car.
30 mins later: Briena's Locker
"Briena" Cass calls heading towards her friend
"Hey" Briena replies turning to watch Cass and a few other friends with her. Briena looks over her friends the 2nd generation Scooby Gang. Cassandra Richards; her best friend, Alex Stander; Cass's boyfriend, and Justin Transmond; Alex's bestfriend
"Heard Spike's back" Alex smirks
"Yep. He got back last night" Briena answers
"How'd patrol go?" Cass asks
"Fine. Spike finished the late run for me."
"So how is our favorite vampire?" Justin asks
"He's fine. Said Dru's doing good" Briena says as the first bell rings "I'm off. I don't want to get into anymore trouble"
That night: The Mansion
"Hey Spike" Briena greets not looking up from her reading
"Are you goin' to patrol tonight?" Spike asks
"Uh yeah. I've got a date though can you take the early rounds?"
"Sure"
"A date?" Buffy asks
"Don't sound so surprised" Briena replies
"Last night you said that you dated all the good guys at school" Buffy remarks "What happened?"
"Nothing. I just felt like going out." she shrugs
"So is he cute?" Buffy asks with a grin
Briena rolls her eyes "Mom"
"Just asking" Buffy replies
"I'm going to go change" Briena announces heading out of the kitchen
An hour later
Briena hears the doorbell ring
"I got it" Annalise yells
"Mom, make sure she doesn't embarrass me" Briena yells
"Briena your dates here" Annalise calls
Briena heads down the stairs to find Buffy talking to the tall brown haired grey-eyed young man. She sees Spike standing in the corner watching the newcomer cautiously "Spike knock it off" she orders "Hey Nathan" she greets
Nathan looks up to see Briena "You ready?" he asks
"Sure." she grabs her jacket "Later" she grabs Nathan's hand pulling him out the door. "Sorry 'bout that. If we didn't get out of there they would interrogate you"
"It’s cool." Nathan replies opening the passenger door for her
11 PM
Briena walks down the street alert for anything out of the ordinary. She reaches Willie's where she finds Spike waiting. "Hey" she greets
" 'ello Briena" he greets "How'd the date go?"
Briena shrugs "It was OK. Nathan's a nice guy"
"Where'd you meet 'im pet?"
"At a party." she tells him as she starts to walk
"He seems like a nice guy" Spike agrees
"He is" she assures him
2 weeks later: Cemetary
"So how's the boyfriend?" Spike asks as they walk through the caves in search of some demons rumored to be living there
"Fine." she answers with a grin
"So are you serious about this one?" he asks curiously
Briena shrugs "Haven't decided. He's a nice guy and all but I'm not looking for anything serious right now." she replies looking around
"Something is here" Spike states looking around warily
"I know. I can feel it" she states when out of nowhere she is thrown off balance by a large body flying into her. Her head hitting a rock she cries out
"Briena" Spike calls going to her side he crouches wincing at the sight of the wound
"Ow" she groans
"Hold still" he orders taking off his duster he removes his shirt. He holds the sleeve to the wound. "You all right?"
Briena meets his eyes "I'm all right" she answers her voice soft
"Good" Spike smiles "Peaches would stake my arse if anything happened to you." he lifts the sleeve to check the wound "I'd stake my own arse if anything happened to you"
Briena looks into his intense gaze "Oh?"
"Yes" he nods slowly he moves closer his lips touching hers lightly he then pulls back "I'm sorry" he apologizes
Briena looks at him startled "It shouldn't have happened Spike" she stands "I'm going to finish patrolling" she mutters walking out of the cave
"Briena" he calls standing
Briena stops "It happened now lets forget it did" she says not looking at him "I'll see you later"
Spike watches as she walks away "I can't forget" he says to himself "I don't want to"
Briena heads towards the
Cass hears the knock opening her eyes she finds Briena outside her window. "What the..." she trails off standing she goes to the window opening it "What are you doing here?"
Briena climbs through the window "He kissed me Cass" she groans flopping on the bed
"Who? Nathan?" Cass yawns joining her on the bed
"Spike" she whispers
"What?!" Cass exclaims looking at her friend startled
Briena nods
"So spill. What was it like?"
Briena groans "It was incredible"
"And?"
"It won't happen again."
"Why not?"
Briena sighs "It can't happen again. I have a boyfriend."
"So what are you going to do?"
Briena shrugs "Forget it happened."
"Do you want to?"
"Yes" she answers looking at the clock "I better go. I'll see you tomorrow." Briena heads to the window "Cass thanks for listening"
"See ya" Cass says
Chapter 4
Next afternoon: The Mansion
"Hey I'm home" Briena calls tossing her backpack on the floor
" 'ello Brie" Spike greets walking down the stairs
Briena looks at him warily "Where is everyone?"
"Peaches took Rory to Red's so he and your Mum could get some work done. The twins are somewhere"
"Oh" she replies heading into the kitchen. She feels Spike watching her as she moves about the kitchen
"So how was school?" Spike asks

Spike growls "Bloody hell Brie you can't still be mad"
Briena looks at him startled "I'm not mad Spike. It just startled me."
"Me too" he admits "I didn't plan it"
Briena shrugs "I know." she walks out of the kitchen
That night
"Brie Nathan's here" Angel calls
"I'll be down in a minute" she answers as she pulls on her shoes she looks at herself in the mirror. She grins at the sight of the black miniskirt with light blue tanktop and heeled boots. Grabbing her jacket and backpack she heads downstairs.
"You ready?" Nathan asks seeing Briena come down the stairs
"Yep" she nods
"Be careful" Buffy calls
"Have fun" Angel adds not looking up from his book
"If I'm not home you know where to find me" she pulls Nathan out of the house
"Man you look hot" Nathan states as they get into his car
"Thanks" Briena leans across the seat kissing him
"You ready for some fun?" he asks
Briena nods "More than you know"
"Then lets find some" he pulls the car out of the driveway
Later that night: Nathan's Apartment
"So how did your parents react to finding out my age?" Nathan asks
"What makes you think I told them?"
"You didn't?"
"My parents don't really care about age" she answers with a shrug "besides your only 22. It’s not that big an age difference"
"Your friend Spike doesn't seem to like me"
"Sorry 'bout that. He's a little protective. He's not that bad once you get to know him"
"So who is Spike?"
"He and my father have known each other for a very long time."
"Why does he live with you?"
"He just does. See Dad and Spike had a falling out years before I was born. Spike brought his girlfriend Drusilla to Sunnydale where they met up again."
"What kind of falling out?"
"My father was involved with Drusilla and Spike was in love with her."
"Oh man that must have been a big fight"
Briena nods "They didn't really speak to each other until Drusilla broke up with Spike. Spike came back here and started working with my mom. After a while Dad and Spike patched things up. So now Spike lives with us."
"Want some more?" he asks holding up a bottle of wine
"Sure" she nods
Nathan pours some more into her glass "So tell me more about your family"
"Nothing much to tell" Briena lies taking a sip
"Are you the oldest?"
"Of my mother's kids yes, my father's I'm second"
"So you have a half sibling?"
Briena nods "Sister. Her name was Kathy"
"Was?"
"She was killed before I was born"
"And so you have an older half sister, two brothers, and a younger sister."
"It would have been two more. But my Mom had two miscarriages before Rory after the twins" she takes a drink "What about you? Any siblings?"
"Nope. I'm an only child"
Briena grins, "You know I'm supposed to be any only child."
"Why?"
"No one thought it would be possible for them to have any other kids." she explains
"Mine didn't want anymore after me"
"Sometimes I wish I was an only child. Mostly I wish I was the only girl. I don't mind my brothers but Lise annoys me"
After midnight: The Mansion
Briena heads up to her bedroom. A few seconds later she hears a knock "What?"
"Can I come in?" Spike asks
"Sure" she invites
Spike enters the dimly lit room "So how was your night?"
"Calm. Thanks for doing rounds"
"No prob." he flops on her bed
Briena reaches back to undo her skirt "Damn" she groans realizing that the zipper is stuck "Spike can you?"
"Sure pet" he bites back a groan as he reaches out carefully unzipping her skirt
"Thanks" Briena moves away aware that Spike's eyes are on her she removes her pantyhose and skirt leaving her standing there in her panties and tank. Grabbing a pair of pajama bottoms she pulls off her bra leaving on the tanktop. "What did you do tonight?"
"Patrolled hung out at Willie's. Got to stake a few fledglings"

A week later: Nathan's apartment
Briena groans sitting up she holds her head "My head"
Beside her Nathan stirs "hey" he yawns
Briena looks at him "hey." she glances at the clock "Shit I gotta get outta here." she grabs her clothes "My parents are not going to be happy" she pulls on her clothes "I'll see you later" she leans down kissing him quickly
"Tonight?"
"Probably. Not sure" she shrugs "I'll call you" she says heading out of the apartment.
Half an hour later: The Mansion
Briena opens the door to find her father still up reading in front of the fire
"Its late" he says not looking up
"Sorry fell asleep" she says heading into the kitchen
Angel closes the book standing he follows her. "It’s 3."
"I said sorry" she snaps opening the fridge
Angel sits down at the counter "You've been drinking" he states
She shrugs pouring herself some juice "I'm not dead drunk just buzzed."
"Briena you shouldn't be drinking." he states
"Can we please avoid the lecture of what I should or shouldn't do" she requests "I'm going to bed" she strides out of the kitchen and up the stairs to her bedroom. She flops on the bed staring up at the ceiling 'Nathan's nice but he wants to be more serious. Sure he's funny, smart, good looking, and great in bed. But I'm bored all ready.'
Next Morning: Sunnydale High
"Yo Brie." Cass calls "How was last night?"
"Fine."
Cass frowns, "Oh boy. I recognize that tone. You’re breaking up with him"
Briena shrugs "Thinking about it"
"Why? I thought you liked him"
"I do. I guess I'm just getting restless." she slams her locker shut
"Its Spike isn't it" Cass states
"No" Briena denies "I'm just not having as much fun as I was at first"
"When are you going to do it?"
"After school" she answers "I told him I'd meet him at his place"
"Just try to keep from ending up in bed with him."
Briena grins "Hey that part never bores me"
After school: Nathan's place
Briena knocks on the door
"Briena hi" Nathan greets opening the door
Briena enters "We need to talk"
"About what?" he asks sitting on the couch
"I can't see you anymore"
Nathan looks at her surprised "What?!"
"Things are getting too complicated in my life. I need time to think and organize my life."

That night: A Frat party
Briena dances with her friends at a Frat party. She scans the area for anyone suspicious
"So heard you and Nathan broke up" Alex says loudly
"I can't believe you did that Brie." Jessi shakes her head "He was a total babe."
Briena shrugs "I got bored." she moves away "Look I better go patrol. I'll see you later"
"Want us to come?"
"Nah" she shakes her head "stay here and have fun. I'll check in with you later" she promises wading through the crowds. Waving to a few familiar people she heads outside and walks down the street towards the cemetary.
"Your late pet" Spike states
Briena turns to find Spike leaning against a crypt. "You don't sound so chipper tonight"
"You do" Spike states
Briena shrugs "I guess"
"So how's the boyfriend?" he asks as they walk
"Broke up with him"
Spike stops walking. Startled he looks at her "Why?"
"I felt like it" she answers
"Oh" he nods walking again. They walk in silence for a while when Spike says "Lets take a break luv"
"Cool" she agrees sits on the ground looking up at the night sky "Hey its clear enough to see the stars"
"Dru used to drive me bloody insane with her obsession with the stars"
Briena looks at Spike to find him staring at her "What?"
Spike shakes his head "Nothing"
Briena cocks her eyebrow at him "Oh?" her breath catches as he moves closer his finger lightly stroking her jaw "This isn't a good idea" she whispers hoarsely
"Why not?" he asks his lips inches from hers
Briena closes her eyes wanting to escape his intense gaze "B-because"
"Of Peaches" Spike finishes his voice soft
Briena nods opening her eyes "And Mom" she adds

She looks around "Well someone might see us here and tell them" she stands "I don't want to take the chance that they'll find out." she looks at her shoes "I don't want to risk losing my best friend over something like this... no matter how incredible it was" she looks at him drawn to his intense gaze "or how..."

"Yes" she nods walking away leaving Spike standing there
Later: the Mansion
Briena stares at her ceiling her mind stuck on the feeling she got when Spike kissed her. 'It felt different from all the other times I've been kissed. I liked it.' she throws off her covers quiet so not to wake anyone else she goes out to the hallway she lightly taps on Spike's door.

"I'm back from the hell that is school" Briena calls entering the mansion. She frowns listening for anyone around "Must be out" she mutters heading into the kitchen. Opening the fridge she stares at the contents. "Hungry?" she asks not turning around

"Where's Dad and Rory?"

Briena grabs an apple "Oh"
"How was school?" Spike asks
Briena shrugs turning around "Same as always" she grabs a box of crackers sitting at the counter

"Nathan's giving you a ride?" Briena asks
"Yeah. He was already heading to LA so I asked him if he could drop me off at Dad's." Cass replies zipping up her duffle bag "Is it cool with you?"
"Sure. He and I are still friends." Briena answers "So you'll be back Sunday night?"
Cass nods "Nathan's gonna bring me back." she replies as the doorbell rings. "He's here" the two teens head downstairs and open the door to find Nathan there
"Hey Brie." he greets "You ready?" he asks Cass
"Yes" she nods following him to the car. Tossing her bag in the backseat she turns to Briena "I'll call you later" she says hugging her

Buffy grabs the ringing phone "Hello?"

Brenda takes a deep breath "There's been an accident... Cass and Nathan are dead"
Hearing that Buffy freezes "Oh no what happened?" she asks her eyes drawn to Angel's
"There was an explosion at the diner where they stopped for dinner" Brenda says tearfully "They were killed instantly. I would have called but..." she pauses sniffling "I thought I'd let you know before Briena found out from the newspaper or something"
Buffy sighs "Thank you. Do you need anything?"
"No thank you. I'll let you know when the service is"
"All right. If you need anything call" Buffy says
"I will thanks." Brenda says hanging up
Buffy looks at Angel tears in her eyes "That was Brenda"
"Oh, what did she say?"
Buffy looks at the phone taking a deep breath "Cass and Nathan are dead" she tells him "they were in an accident" she whispers
Angel sighs hugging his wife "What happened?"
"An explosion at some diner where they stopped for dinner." she says sadly "Brie is going to be so upset"
"I know" he agrees kissing her head "We should go tell her"
Buffy pulls away "All right" she grabs Rory from the highchair. "Lise, Damian" she calls heading into the livingroom "watch your brother for a while" she says setting the baby on the floor
Annalise frowns seeing the sadness in her mother's eyes "Momma what's going on?"
Angel enters the living room "We just need to talk to your sister Annalise."
Damian and Annalise look at each other quizzically "Why?" Damian asks
"We'll tell you later. Just keep an eye on Roarke" Buffy tells them

"How come she gets to disappear without telling anyone and we don't?" Annalise whines
"She's old enough" Angel replies "Look we need to talk"

"Spike what ever you did or didn't do doesn't matter. This is about Briena" Buffy tells him
"What?" Spike asks worried
Buffy takes a deep breath "Cass's Mom called. There was an accident. Nathan and Cass are dead"
Spike looks at them startled "What happened?"
"Later" Angel nods at the kids

"Angel she's been gone all day. Where is she?" Buffy wonders
Angel sighs "Buff she's fine. She can take care of herself"
Buffy groans flopping on the bed "I'm worried. She hasn't talked to anyone all day. What if something happens?"
"Buffy we'd know if it did. We wouldn't feel her if something happened."
"I know. She always has had the stronger presence of all of them." she lays her head on his chest "I remember when she used to crawl into bed with us when something was bothering her."

Buffy sighs "I just want her to come home"
"So do I. Spike said he'd see if anyone's seen her."

The Caves
"So you found me" Briena says not turning around
"Everyone’s worried about you luv" Spike tells her. He notices the empty liquor bottles beside her "On your way to getting smashed I see"
"If you’re going to lecture me I'll stake your sorry ass"

She shrugs "I'll live" she takes a drink
Spike takes the bottle from her "Talk to me" he demands

Spike stands pulling on his jeans walking over to her. He sits in front of her tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "Are you thinking this was a mistake?" he questions
Briena sees the sadness in his eyes "No" she replies touching the marks on his arms then looks away "I'm just confused"
"About what?" he asks softly
Briena shrugs "I don't know. I just feel confused. Almost like something has changed" seeing his look "not between us." she moves to his lap she lays her head on his shoulder "I can't explain it." she yawns
Spike kisses her head "We should head home luv."
"Not now. I can't deal with them right now"
"Sure luv. We'll deal with them tomorrow." he stands holding her close he carries her to his duster.
Briena curls up at his side "I don't want them to know Spike"
"It’s your choice pet"
"Thank you Spike" she yawns
"Get some rest pet" he kisses her head.
As she in almost asleep she hears Spike whisper "I love you Briena"
Later that Night
//"Why am I here now?" Briena asks entering the bright room to see the Oracles waiting for her
The female Oracle moves closer "Its time"
Briena wraps her arms around her waist "It’s too soon. I haven't finished school. I have to go to Cass and Nathan's funerals"
"You don't have time." the male states "You are ready to move on"
Briena shakes her head "I-I can't" she says tearfully "I'm not ready to leave them... my family... my..." she raises her hand to her neck fingering the fading marks
"I know child. You aren't ready to leave your mate." The female Oracle moves closer lightly touching the marks on Briena's neck
"I just..." Briena looks away
The male sighs "Humans are such emotional beings"
Briena looks at the female "Is he my true mate? Is he one of the reasons I live?"
"Yes. He is your true mate. You and he were born for each other. Your own parents were born not just to create you and your siblings but also for each other."
"If he is my mate why must I leave him?"
"It isn't time for you two to be together." the male states
"When will it be?"
"You will now. You'll feel it" the female tells her "but it won't be for a while."
Briena nods looking down "How long do I have before I need to leave?"
"Not long" the male answers
"What of my parents? My brothers and sister? Without them and Spike I'm lost."
"You will find people along the way to help you. Your family will be fine." the male assures
Briena nods "I have a request of you"
The female looks at her partner then back at Briena "What is your request?"
"That until I am able to return my father will remain in his current state"
"You mean that you do not want him to be human?" the male asks
"I want him to be able to protect the family. When I am able to return he will be given his humanity if it is time."
"That is a noble request but what of your father? Is it fair to him for you to request this?"
"Before it was thought I would be around when he regained his humanity but if I am gone who will protect them?"
"That is a wise request. We will do what we can to fulfill it" the female agrees "Be safe child you are important to both worlds"//
Briena wakes up to find Spike fast asleep beside her. 'He's my mate.' she thinks awed as she sits up. She reaches for her clothes pulling them on she grabs her backpack opening it she pulls out her notebook and a pen.
"Spike, Thank you for everything not just for last night but for all you have done for me. For protecting me. Caring for me. Loving me. Take care of everyone for me."
She looks over at the sleeping vampire then writes:
"Love, Briena"
Next she writes to her parents
"Dear Momma and Daddy,
By the time you get this I'll be out of Sunnydale. They said it was time. Try not to worry Momma I'll be fine. I'll call and write every so often. I don't know when I'll be back but I will. Tell the shorties I said goodbye. I love you, Briena. PS tell Lise to stay out of my room"
As an after thought she adds
"PPS: Try not to stake Spike while I'm gone."
Ripping the notes out of the notebook she folds them and addresses them. She goes over to Spike kneeling she touches his cheek leaning down she kisses his cheek "I love you too William" she whispers as she stands heading out of the caves into the sunlight. She looks back smiling faintly "I'll be back" she promises
Chapter 8
Early evening- the caves
Spike groans reaching out for Briena. Finding the space beside him empty he sits up "Brie luv?" he calls looking around when he notices the pieces of paper beside him weighed down with a rock. Picking up the papers he sees his name on one and the other addressed to Buffy and Angel. Frowning he reads the note. He crumples it 'She's gone' he stands pulling on his clothes he rushes out of the caves
That Morning: the Mansion
Buffy awakens to find Angel staring out the window "Angel?" she yawns
"Hey baby" he greets
Buffy gets out of bed joining Angel in his chair "What's wrong?"
"Nothing" he shakes his head
"Did Brie come home?" she asks hopefully
"No"
Buffy sighs "Something is wrong Angel"
"What do you mean?" he asks startled
"I don't know I just feel it" she whispers
"Everything will work out beloved." he assures hugging her
Buffy curls closer to Angel "I just want my baby to come home or call so I know she's OK." she says tearfully
Angel kisses her hair "I know baby" he whispers rocking her "I know"
"Momma Rory's up" Annalise yells
"He's probably hungry" Buffy calls "Heat up his bottle"
"All right" huffs the 12 year old
After a few minutes Annalise calls "Momma there aren't any in the fridge"
"I knew I forgot something" Buffy groans standing "I better go feed him" she heads towards the door
"I'll go get him" Angel says heading towards the door. He goes into the nursery picking up the fussy baby. "You hungry huh?" he asks carrying Roarke in to their bedroom. "Look Rory its Mommy" he says handing the baby to Buffy
"Rory" Buffy smiles taking the fussing baby from Angel she unbuttons her top
Angel watches as the infant feeds leaning down he kisses the baby's head. Looking at Buffy he smiles faintly "I'll go check on the twins."
Buffy nods "Will you try and get a hold of Spike?" she asks
"I'll try" Angel promises heading downstairs where he finds Damian and Annalise watching TV. "Hey you two" he greets
Damian looks up at his father tilting his head quizzically "What's wrong?"
"What makes you think something’s wrong?" Angel asks knowing that his son has a strong intuition towards feelings. 'Just like Brie' he thinks
"You have broody face" Annalise states looking up "Momma always says you get that when you’re worried"
"Dad is Briena OK?" Damian asks cautiously
Angel sits down on the couch "I'm sure she's fine." he assures "She's just more emotional then you and Lise."
"Is that cause she wasn't born like us?" Annalise asks curiously
Angel sighs "Lise you know your sister is a little sensitive about that."
"Why?" Lise asks
Angel leans forward "Sometimes it makes her feel different from everyone else. Even though you two also share both traits that she has hers are more intense so it makes her feel like an outsider... like Spike and I are with other vampires."
"Because you have a soul and are married to a Slayer?" Damian asks
Angel nods "And Spike because of the chip"
Annalise looks at her brother then at her father "Daddy when is Brie gonna be home?"
Angel places his arm around his youngest daughter's shoulders "When she's ready" he kisses her temple
That Evening: The Mansion
Spike slams into the house muttering obscenities under his breath.
Buffy looks up from making dinner "Spike where's Briena?" she asks worried by the vampires barely restrained anger.
"Here" he hands her the note turning on his heel he heads up to his room.
Buffy looks after Spike confused be his behavior. Looking at the note she sees it’s in Briena's handwriting. "Damian, watch your brother" she says heading into the study she finds Angel reading. "Spike's back" she tells him
Angel closes his book looking up at his wife he sees the worry on her face. "What's wrong?" he asks pulling her onto his lap
Buffy hands him the note silently
Angel opens the note and reads it aloud to Buffy
"Dear Momma and Daddy:
By the time you get this I'll be out of Sunnydale. They said it was time. Try not to worry Momma I'll be fine. I'll call and write every so often. I don't know when I'll be back but I will. Tell the shorties I said goodbye. I love you, Briena. PS: tell Lise to stay out of my room. PPS: Try not to stake Spike while I'm gone."
Buffy starts to cry
Angel sits there holding his crying wife knowing that things won't be the same for a while. 'Briena sweet one come home safe.' he prays pressing a kiss to Buffy's hair "She'll be back baby" he whispers "It'll be OK."
After showering Spike comes back downstairs to the sound Buffy crying he shakes his head 'Your Mum misses you luv.' he looks to see the twins looking at the study door "Why don't you go watch TV" he suggests
Damian looks at Spike sadly "She isn't coming back is she?"
"Not right now kid" Spike answers "but she will." he looks at Annalise "When she's ready" he picks Rory up "Let’s go watch some TV"
"How do you know she'll come home Spike?" Annalise asks following him into the living room.
'Because I love her' he thinks with a faint smile "I just do Annie" he answers
An hour later
Angel walks out of the study to find Damian and Annalise watching TV. "Where's your brother?"
"Spike put him to bed" Damian answers
Angel nods "Have you done your homework?"
"I did" Annalise replies
"Damian?" Angel asks
"I did it"
"Good. Where's Spike?"
"Kitchen" Damian tells him
Angel heads into the kitchen where he finds Spike seated at the counter holding a mug of blood. "Spike" Angel greets
Spike looks up "How's the Slayer?"
"Asleep" Angel answers opening the fridge "Did you feed the kids?"
Spike nods "Rugrats changed and in bed"
"Thanks" Angel says sitting across from Spike "What happened last night?"
Spike looks at the mug of warmed blood then his sire. "Found 'er in one of her hideouts" he shrugs "we talked. I woke up she was gone"
"Was she OK?"
Spike nods "Upset but fine"
Angel looks at his childe quizzically "Is that all Spike?"
"Yes" he lies
Angel takes a drink "Did she say anything to you about leaving?"
"No" Spike stands "I'm gonna go do some rounds"
Angel watches as his childe leaves 'He's not telling me something'
Graveyard
As Spike is looking for some action his cell phone rings. Grabbing it out of his pocket he turns it on "Yeah?" he says hopeful that it’s Briena
"Hi"
Spike grins "Where are you luv?"
Briena sighs "Not in Sunnydale"
Spike sits on a headstone taking out a cigarette he lights it "You all right?" he asks
"As fine as I'll ever be" she answers "Where are you?"
"The cemetary." he replies "Why did you leave pet?"
"The Oracles" she whispers "They said it was time"
"You coulda woken me up pet and said goodbye"
"You looked tired. If I had it would have ended up us fighting. I didn't want to leave after fighting with you."
"So you went for leaving after fucking instead" he hears her inhale sharply
"That's not fair Spike." she snaps
"I know. I'm sorry luv." he apologizes
"I'm sorry too. I should have said goodbye." she agrees
"Hey at least if you 'ad it would 'ave been one amazin' goodbye" he chuckles
Briena laughs "That it would"
"When will you be back luv?"
"They said I'd know. So right now I'm on call"
"Your Mum was pretty upset" Spike tells her
"I know. She knew it was going to happen she didn't expect it before I was 18. Everyone thought that we'd have time"
"I know"
Briena is silent
"What's wrong luv?"
Briena sighs "I miss you Spike"
"I miss you too luv"
"Spike?"
"Yes?"
"I better go. I'll talk to you later"
"All right but call your parents pet. Let them know your OK"
"I will" she promises "Bye"
"Goodbye luv"
The Mansion
Angel picks up the phone before it wakes Buffy and Rory. "Hello?"
"Hi Dad"
Angel smiles "I've been expecting you to call"
"I'm sorry for not coming home and saying goodbye."
"It’s OK. I understand"
"But Momma doesn't, does she?"
"No" he admits "She's always hoped that you wouldn't have to leave"
"I know."
"Where are you?"
"Nowhere"
"Do you have enough money?"
"I have my bank card and credit cards." she tells him "Do you mind if I cash one out when I need to?"
"No the limits are a thousand dollars on them. You won't be able to live off that."
"I'll get jobs. I'll be fine"
"I know. Call if you need money."
"I will. I better go. Tell everyone I'm fine"
"I will" Angel promises "Take care of yourself sweet one"
"I will Daddy. Bye"
"Bye" he says hanging up the phone
Away from Sunnydale
Briena hangs up the phone staring at it "I miss them" she whispers flopping on the bed. She stares at the ceiling "I'm sorry I won't make it to the funerals" she closes her eyes
Later that night- NC17

Next Morning: The Mansion
Buffy walks downstairs to find Spike in front of the TV. "Hi Spike" she greets
"Hey Slayer"
"Where's Angel and the kids?"
"Peaches is in the study. Your Mum picked up the kids for the day."
"Didn't the twins go to school?" Buffy asks
"They didn't feel like going" he replies "Peaches said they didn't have too"
"Oh" Buffy responds heading into the study. "Hey" she greets hugging him. "What's this about the twins not going to school?" she asks kissing him
"They didn't sleep very well so I thought they could spend the day with your Mom" Angel answers pulling Buffy onto his lap "How are you doing this morning?"
"My head hurts" she complains
"I'm sorry." he replies
"Did Brie call?"
"Yes. She's fine."
"Why didn't you wake me?" Buffy demands
"You were out."
"Next time wake me" Buffy orders
"All right" he agrees "What are you going to do today?"
"I am going to go see Brenda."
"When is the service?" Angel asks
"Tomorrow afternoon" she replies standing heading out the door
Next Afternoon: the Mansion
"What?" Spike growls groggily
"Hey Mr Sleepy Vampire" Briena greets with a laugh
"Briena what time is it?" Spike groans
"3" she answers "Where is everyone? I called no one answered"
"At Cass's funeral"
"Oh."
Hearing her tone Spike sits up "You OK luv?"
"Yeah." she responds
"You miss them huh?"
"Of course. Cass was my friend"
"He was your boyfriend"
Briena rolls her eyes at the jealousy in Spike's voice. "He was more along the lines of a friend who was a boy"
"That you slept with"
"You sound jealous"
"I'm not" he growls
"Lets make a deal I don't ask you don't ask"
"Fine" he agrees
"How's everything there?"
"Beating up the morons"
"So you’re having fun?"
"As much as I can."
They talk for the next hour when Briena finally says "I gotta go I'm getting hungry"
"All right. I'll talk to you later" Spike hangs up
That Evening: The Mansion
Buffy picks up the phone "Hello?"
"Hi Mom" Briena greets
"Briena" Buffy says happily "Where are you honey?"
"I'm still in
"I'm glad."
Briena and Buffy talk for a while.
A week later: The Mansion
Buffy awakens to find Angel lying beside her watching her thoughtfully, "Morning" she smiles
"Happy birthday" he grins kissing her
"It’s my birthday" Buffy groans "I hate my birthday. Bad things happen. Wake me when the days over" she pulls the blanket over her head
"Oh come on they haven't been that bad since the kids came along" he protests pulling the blanket away
"True." Buffy agrees reluctantly "I guess I'm still trying to get used to that"
"Mom" Annalise yells slamming into their bedroom she jumps on their bed "Happy Birthday Mom" she hugs her mother
Buffy laughs hugging her daughter "Thanks honey"
"Happy Birthday Mom" Damian says entering the bedroom carrying the baby.
"Thanks you guys" Buffy hugs her kids
Away from Sunnydale
Briena awakens with a start her heart pounding "Oh God" she groans running her fingers through her hair "What is going on" she whispers. She looks over at the clock. "Mom must be up" she reaches over grabbing the phone she dials her home number
"Hello?"
"Hey Mom" Briena greets "Happy Birthday" she says standing
"Thanks sweetie" Buffy says "How are you?"
Briena inhales sharply as she shifts her body "Damn" she mutters
"Don't swear Briena" Buffy scolds
"Sorry"
"You OK?" Buffy asks concerned
"Yeah I took a hit in the ribs last night"
"Must be severe for you to still feel it" Buffy remarks
Briena heads towards the bathroom lifting her shirt she winces at the sight of the bruise "I'm fine. So what are you doing for your birthday?"
"I don't know. Probably spend time at home"
"Good. How is everyone?"
"Your sister got an A on her English paper."
"Cool"
"Damian went a week without getting detention"
"Now that is amazing" Briena listens as her mother tells her all about what is going on in Sunnydale.
Chapter 10
Three weeks later: LA
Briena enter the motel room flopping on the bed she grabs the phone dialing Spike's cell phone number.
"Briena?" Spike says
"Hi"
"Where are you?"
"LA. What are you doing?"
"Staring at the stars" he answers
"I though you hated doing that" Briena says sitting up "Whoa" she groans seeing black spots
"What’s wrong pet?" he asks worried
"Oh just the world spinning" she replies "I haven't had much sleep lately and I'm hungry"
"Nightmares?"
"Yes."
"What about?"
"I don't know how to explain it. It’s different from my normal ones."
"How?"
Briena curls up on her side "I just want them to go away Spike." she whispers
"Want me to come up pet?" at Briena's silence "Only me luv. I won't tell them where you are"
"I'm at the Motel 6 near the mall. Room 120. I'll leave the door unlocked"
"All right I'll be there in a few hours."
"OK." she says "Spike?"
"Yes?"
"Thank you" she whispers hanging up the phone
Three hours later: LA
Spike quietly opens the door to Room 120. He makes out Briena's form on the bed. Stripping down to his boxers he crawls into the bed.
"Hi" Briena sighs sleepily
Spike pulls Briena in his arms kissing her shoulder "Get some sleep luv" he whispers
"You won't go anywhere?"
"I'll be right here" he promises
Briena nods sleepily snuggling close she drifts back to sleep
Hour later
Spike awakens to hear Briena mumbling in her sleep "Brie" he calls softly
"No." Briena cries out as she wakens her heart pounding. She sits up holding her head in her hands "I just want them to go away Spike" she whispers
"I know" he sits up holding her "I know"
Briena turns in his arms burying her face in his shoulder clinging to him tightly.
"Shh pet I'm here" he soothes rocking her "I'm here" he whispers rocking her back to sleep
Next Morning
Yawning Briena slowly becomes aware of the cool body beside her. She tucks her head under his chin in an attempt to seek more comfort. She smiles as cool arms embrace her.
"Stop wiggling cutie" Spike growls
"Sorry." she props her head up on her hand looking down at him. "Hi" she greets kissing him lightly
"You know pet I'm a vampire... we sleep during the day" he grumbles
Briena rolls her eyes "Fine Mr. Too-Grumpy-To-Say-Hi. Go back to sleep"
Spike sighs needlessly at the sight of the pout "Sorry luv." he apologizes "Hi" he grins
"That's better" Briena grins back
"Lets go back to sleep luv" Spike mumbles sleepily pulling Briena down
Briena snuggles closer closing her eyes she goes back to sleep.
Later that Morning
Briena awakens to find Spike still asleep. Leveling herself off of him she moves to the end of the bed lying on her stomach she opens her book.
Spike feels Briena move away from him. He opens his eyes slightly to see Briena laying on her stomach her feet in the air. He smiles as an idea comes to him.
So involved in her reading Briena doesn't notice that Spike is awake until she feels a hand between her thighs. Startled she looks over her shoulder at Spike. "What are you..." she gasps as a cool finger slips into her panties stroking her lightly
Spike smiles at the feeling of her wetness "You like?"
Briena nods wordlessly
"Up for some fun?" he asks with a smirk
"Oh yeah" she grins
Later
Spike holds Briena close "So how was that?"
Briena looks at him "Amazing"

"I can't." she replies "I wish I could. I miss everyone"

Briena rolls off Spike laying on her stomach props her head up on her hand looking at him "I wish things were different"
"How?"
Briena sighs "I wish I could be like everyone else... normal"
"Human?"
"I don't know. I'm supposed to be but lately... I don't feel it." she admits "I feel like... I'm changing."
"How?" Spike demands
"I don't know. I just feel it... here" she places her hand over her heart. "Something is telling me that Spike."
Spike strokes her back "You aren't like everyone else luv."
Briena nods "I know. I'm not human. I'm not a vampire. I'm just what I am." she looks at Spike thoughtfully "Spike if you could change things would you?"
Spike looks at the ceiling "I like being a vampire pet."
"Why?"
Spike rolls to his side looking at Briena "I just do. I do what I want. I'll live as long as no one stakes me or shoves me out in the sun. I like to think I'm a better vampire than I was a mortal"
"You've told me little about what you were like why?"
Spike shrugs sitting up he reaches for his duster taking out a pack of cigarettes. "I wasn't a nice guy luv" he answers lighting up his cigarette he inhales "I was worse than Peaches was." he leans against the headboard
Briena looks at him curiously "What did you do?"
Spike takes a drag on the cigarette "I killed people" he admits softly
"Why?"
Spike shrugs "I felt like it."
"Oh"
"Things were different when I was mortal." he says staring at the wall "If you weren't upper class you were nothing. I was lower class... nothing" he takes her hand absently stroking her knuckles
"What about your family? You never told me about them"
"I didn't have one really... it was only me and my mum and my little sister."
"What were they like?"
Spike stubs out the cigarette rolling to his side he looks at Briena. "My Mum was a lot like you. She cared about everyone yet if you got on her bad side..." he grins at Briena "My sister was like Annie."
"What happened to them?"
"They died before I met Angelus."
"What about your father?"
"Don't remember him. Mum never talked about him. I think he died before I was born."
Briena looks at him curiously "What about your friends?"
"All I had was myself after my mum and sister died."
"What no nice girl you were in love with?"
"No" he chuckles tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "Not until now" he says softly.
Briena smiles faintly "So you were a loner"
"I guess you could say that"
"Tell me if you could have been born in this time what would you want to be if you were mortal."
"I don't know. I never thought about it."
"Come on you must have one idea."
"I seriously don't know. What would you like to do?"
"You mean if I didn't have the destiny of being the child of a vampire and Slayer?"
"Yeah"
"Normal." she smiles "Finish high school. Have a normal day without worrying that someone will find out my secret. Someday go to college. Maybe get married have a couple kids."
"So you want to get married?"
Briena shrugs "Not really. I'm just thinking of what normal people want. I never really understand the whole point behind getting married."
"How many kids would you want?"
"If it was possible at least two. At the most four. I have this thing with odd numbers." She sighs, "But it’s not really a possibility or a probability for
Spike shakes his head "I didn't have the life for them. If I had the life then sure I would have liked to have kids. That wasn't much of a choice for me."
"Oh" Briena and Spike talk for the afternoon about everything
That night
"Come on luv are you ready" Spike calls impatiently
"Just a minute" she replies
Spike sighs pacing the room "Finally" he mutters as the bathroom door opens. He looks up startled to see Briena standing in the doorway of the bathroom wearing thigh length red dress with a black leather jacket and black knee high leather boots. "Wow" he states looking her over
"You like?" she asks
Spike nods, "Oh yeah. I'm tempted to keep you here"
Briena rolls her eyes "Well you aren't. This my last night in LA, I want to have some fun." she walks closer "Besides I'm hungry." she kisses him "You must be too" she takes his hand "Lets go"
"All right" Spike reluctantly agrees following her out the door "Where to?" he asks as they walk down the stairs
"There's a place a few blocks from here that is seen as neutral ground for demons and humans."
"Think they got human blood?" Spike asks hopefully
"They probably do" Briena smiles
"Good. I haven't had any in a while... other than yours"
"I'm not exactly human" she reminds
"Yours is as close as I've had in a few months."
"Oh really?" she turns to look at him
"Peaches still has issues with human blood." Spike grumbles
Briena smiles at the look on his face "Come on we're almost there." she tugs on his hand. After a few minutes they stop in front of a darkened restaurant called 'Refugee'
Spike notices the other demons around him "Pet?" he asks warily
"Relax" Briena smiles "The rules here are that no one is allowed to fight. All weapons are confiscated upon entrance. This means you are on your best behavior right?"
"All right. While we're in here I will be good" he promises
"Thank you" she pulls him through the door. They head to the nearest table and sit down.
"Ah hello my dear" a kind voice greets
Briena looks up to see a middle-aged gentleman standing there. She stands "Good to see you" she smiles hugging him. She rolls her eyes as she hears Spike growl low "Spike, behave" she orders turning around "Spike this in Harry. Harry owns this place"
Spike nods "Your human"
"And you are a vampire"
Briena looks at Harry "Don't worry he'll be good." she assures sitting down
Harry nods "I'll bring your friend some of our best. And what about you?" he asks Briena
"Normal"
"I'll be right back" Harry nods walking away
An hour later
"What do you want to do now luv?" Spike asks as the waitress takes away the dishes
"There's a band at Rocko's"
"Rocko's?"
"A club. I usually go there to check on the local party scene to make sure there isn't any unnecessary deaths" seeing the uncertain look on Spike's face "You might find a few demons to beat up"
Spike grins "All right then luv lets go" he stands holding out his hand to Briena
Briena puts her hand in his as she stands "Works for me"
The Club
Spike and Briena walk into the club hand in hand. Spike glares at the mortal men looking at Briena. He leads Briena to a booth sitting down he pulls her onto his lap kissing her fiercely.
"What was that for?" she asks breathlessly
"Show these whelps your mine" he growls
"Oh am I?" she lifts her eyebrow
"May I take your order?" the waitress asks
Spike looks up "I'll have a whiskey straight"
The waitress nods "Ma'am?" she asks looking at Briena
"Red wine"
"I'll be right back" the waitress says
Briena rests her head on his shoulder her attention on the band.
3 AM
"Whoa" Briena gasps running her fingers through Spike's hair as he purrs "That was..."
"Intense" he mutters
"Mmm" she sighs "I wish I didn't have to leave in the morning"
"Where are you going to go next?"
Briena shrugs "I'm not sure. Maybe San Fransisco. Or Vegas." she yawns
Spike rolls onto his back "Get some sleep luv" he whispers kissing her head "You have a long day a head of you"
6 hours later
Briena jumps startled as strong arms embrace her from behind "Spike" she sighs leaning against his chest. "I'll miss you"
"I'm goin' to miss you too Brie" he says nuzzling her neck "Call me when you get where your goin'"
"I will" she promises turning around she wraps her arms around his neck "Try and keep from getting staked by my parents huh"
Spike smiles "I will." he kisses her lightly
"You know we'll have to do this again" she muses
"That we will" he chuckles
Briena kisses him "I'll talk to you later" she says pulling away. She heads towards the door. She opens it enough to get out so to not let in any light. "Bye" she says softly
"Be careful pet"
"You too" she smiles sadly at him as she closes the door. 'I love you' she thinks blinking back her tears as she walks away
Spike stares at the closed door running his hand through his hair 'I love you Briena' he turns crawling back into bed
